Do you ever feel stuck? Lost in your own life? Left floundering in an endless sea, while wave after wave crashes over your head, each one pulling your head further under the water?
There come times when you’ve been living your life day-to-day, minding your own business, when suddenly it seems as though things are happening for everybody but you.
Some of your friends are getting engaged, married, or having babies. Others are getting pregnant, some are buying new vehicles and others still, are traveling all around the world. Even others are going to school, graduating, getting pets or beginning new careers, and where are you? You’re stuck working a crappy job where you work as hard as you can with the pathetic number of hours you are given, still barely scraping up rent while saving one dollar a month for school!
You still don’t have your first dog, your first car, you haven’t been on a vacation in years and you feel like your life is going nowhere fast! I mean fast – express lane fast! Your friends might as well be saving the world or secretly be Superman!
You begin pouting, upset at first only on the inside, but slowly, as the weeks go by your friends and family begin to notice. Your day-to-day life becomes harder, and you feel stuck, trapped. Everybody else’s’ success stories and happy stories begin weighing you down, making you unhappy.
Your life begins souring and that’s awful. You need to think of the good things in your life – the things that ARE happening.
Be thankful that you have any of those hours from your job, the fact that you have a job even! Be thankful you’re alive and healthy. Be thankful you have a roof over your head, that you have hot water to shower with, food in your fridge and friends who love you.
So you’re not where you want to be right now, but that’s the great thing! You have your whole life ahead of you, and you’ll get there. You will accomplish your dreams, but they’re not going to happen in the blink of an eye. You need to put one foot in front of the other. You want to get a doctorate? Begin where you are now – making money. Next step will be researching schools, upgrading classes, applying, staying up late studying, graduating with a bachelors, working and completing your doctorate. There are so many steps in between the start and the end!
Life isn’t about the destination. It’s about the journey! It’s always fun when you finally get to the place you’re going, but some of the best memories are on the trip there! The excitement builds as you get closer, slowly accumulating, making your heart pound and your smile brighter.
My point is that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be in your life. So don’t worry about it.
